Sam Wagstaff

Samuel Jones Wagstaff Jr. was an American art curator and collector active in the mid-twentieth century. He was a prominent supporter of minimalism, pop art, conceptual art, and earthworks. Beyond his curatorial work, he served as a mentor and benefactor to photographer Robert Mapplethorpe and poet Patti Smith, and his advocacy for photography helped establish the medium as a recognized fine art.
