John Dryden

John Dryden was an influential English poet, playwright, literary critic, and translator who lived from 1630 to 1700. Appointed as England's first Poet Laureate in 1668, he dominated the literary landscape of the Restoration period to such an extent that the era is often referred to as the Age of Dryden. His significant contributions to literature earned him the nickname Glorious John from Sir Walter Scott.
