Imamu Amiri Baraka
Amiri Baraka (1934–2014) was an American author whose body of work spans poetry, drama, fiction, essays, and music criticism. Previously known as LeRoi Jones, he held teaching positions at the University at Buffalo and Stony Brook University. His writing is widely recognized by scholars as a defining contribution to African-American culture, and he received the PEN/Beyond Margins Award in 2008 for his collection Tales of the Out and the Gone.
