Frances Toor

Frances Toor (1890–1956) was an American author, publisher, anthropologist, and ethnographer who focused her work on Mexico and its indigenous cultures. A graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, she moved to Mexico City in 1922 and founded the journal Mexican Folkways in 1925. Often referred to as the gringa folklorista, Toor dedicated her career to documenting the traditions and ethnographic landscape of the region.
