The Byronic hero is a variant of the Romantic hero, named after the English poet Lord Byron. This character type is defined by isolation, contemplation, and a complex temperament. Historian Lord Macaulay described the figure as a proud, moody, and cynical individual who possesses a defiant exterior but remains capable of deep affection.
