Burton L. Mack
Burton L. Mack (1931–2022) was an American scholar of early Christian history and the New Testament. As the John Wesley Professor emeritus at the Claremont School of Theology, he specialized in Christian origins and social group formation. Mack maintained a skeptical approach to traditional texts, viewing the Gospels as mythic charter documents rather than historical accounts of the life of Jesus.
