Aphra Behn

Aphra Behn was a Restoration-era English playwright, poet, and translator who became one of the first women in England to earn a living through writing. After serving as a spy for Charles II in Antwerp, she returned to London to pursue a literary career, often writing under the pseudonym Astrea. A staunch supporter of the Stuart line, Behn produced a diverse body of work that established her as a significant figure in seventeenth-century literature.
