Ammianus Marcellinus
Ammianus Marcellinus was a 4th-century Roman soldier and historian. He authored the Res gestae, a historical account covering Roman history from the accession of Emperor Nerva in 96 to the Battle of Adrianople in 378. While the original work spanned several centuries, only the sections documenting the years 353 to 378 have survived to the present day.
